Actions required to register a motor vehicle in the Slovak Republic

It can be difficult to understand the whole process of registering an imported vehicle in Slovakia, so here is a summary list of the tasks that need to be carried out when registering a motor vehicle in the Slovak Republic. Individual tasks can be ordered as a comprehensive package of services or separately, according to your preferences. We will arrange everything for you expressly and quickly at the lowest prices.

Official translations of the acquisition document and the technical licence

In the case of importing a car from abroad, you need an official translation of the acquisition document, i.e. the contract or invoice. In some cases, it is also necessary to have an officially translated registration certificate. If the vehicle is imported from the Czech Republic, an official translation into Slovak is not necessary.

An official translation of the sales contract or invoice is also not necessary if the documents are bilingual or in the language of the exporting country and in Slovak.

Originality, technical and emission inspection

If you are importing a vehicle from abroad, you must carry out an originality check. The originality check is valid for 15 days from the date of the check. If the imported vehicle is more than 4 years old, a roadworthiness and emissions test must also be carried out.

If you need to rectify faults on your vehicle, you can use the services of an hourly garage. The latter provides the rental of professional premises to repair your vehicle on your own, with a large assembly pit and a complete set of professional tools at your disposal.

Recycling fee – idovoz.sk

In addition, a fee must be paid to confirm acceptance of responsibility for the management of waste from a vehicle that is an individually imported vehicle.

You can calculate the amount of the fee by entering the VIN number of the vehicle at www.idovoz.sk

Application for recognition of EC type-approval/approval of a vehicle imported individually from a Member State/another Contracting State

Submission of an application for recognition of EC type-approval/approval of a vehicle imported individually from a Member State/another Contracting State to the district office at the place of registration of the vehicle.

Compulsory insurance – PZP

Before registering a vehicle in the vehicle register, it is necessary to take out compulsory insurance, the so-called PZP. We can take care of this obligation for you.

Registration of the vehicle

When registering a vehicle, you must fill in an application form and pay an administrative fee at the traffic inspectorate.

You can use our calculator to calculate the amount. The fee for the number plate must be added to the amount, the fee for one number plate is €25.

Administrative TK and EC

If the vehicle is older than 4 years and the import technical and emission inspection has been carried out, an administrative MOT and EC is required after the vehicle is registered in the vehicle register.
